The Guild of American Luthiers is a nonprofit educational membership organization whose purpose is to facilitate learning about lutherie: 
The art, craft, and science of stringed musical instrument construction and repair. 

I wholeheartedly support their policy of being ‘open to all… whether you live in Brooklyn or Bangladesh; whether lutherie is your livelihood or your passion…’
They publish a quarterly magazine, “American Lutherie”, entirely devoted to this subject.

To introduce other luthiers to the unique instrument making traditions of India the GAL published an article I wrote in their fall 2002 issue (#67) regarding my studies in India in 1987.

The article is a very brief summary both technically and anecdotally of my experiences in India, meant to inspire and inform.
It is only a fraction of the documentation of my apprenticeship with Kartar Chand Sharma, which will eventually be a more thorough  book.
